As a Digital citizen you have certain rights but those rights come with responsibilities. Becoming a digital citizen is as easy as surfing the web. if your viewing this your probably a digital citizen. As a digital citizen you have the right to post/view info, but being a digital citizen also comes with responsibilities. And as an functional adult {hopefully} you are obligated to be responsible and follow the written and un-written law while on the web. What may be funny to you could be a slap to the face for someone else. Not every one may be like you so you may want to censer what you say in order not to offend people. the nine basic elements of digital citizenship depend on people being responsible. being responsible is as easy as not changing peoples password on itunes when its as easy as putting in their user name and your email address. Digital rights and responsibilities are the freedoms that every person has on the Internet. Even though digital users have rights, they must also act responsibly. It is important to behave appropriately on the Internet so that you do not say something that could be offensive to someone else. It is important that everyone understands these rights and responsibilities when they use technology. Digital rights are extremely important because they make sure that every person is safe on the Internet.

Background

You have a wide range of Rights and Responsibility on the internet. Your Rights on the internet consist of you being able to do whatever you want to do whenever you want too. It is your Internet freedom. You have a right to use any program or feature of the internet whenever you want too use it. some examples of your rights that you can use on the internet are Facebook,Twitter, and Myspace. those are only a few of the thing that you have the rights too do. It is your Responsibility to keep yourself safe on the internet. The more Responsible you are on the internet the more the internet will be beneficial too you and anything that you are wanting too do.

Another excellent example of responsibilities is a real life example about relationship on line that goes wrong and how we should control the situation and resolve the issue.

Social / ethical aspects

A persons culture is an apparent barrier that occurs when people from different countries collaborate. People of different ethnicity/race/etc.. can take comments and gestures differently than we mean them. For example in the Deep South we are raised to say "yes sir" yes ma'm" as an act of respect. but if you say that to a British person they take it as an act of defiance and disrespect. Another example is when any man talks to a woman of Arabian culture you can't flirt or smalltalk in any way. That's a big "no no" but yet most people are blissfully unaware of the social barrier. As a digital citizen it is your right to post comments on public sites but your responsibility to censer what you say to make sure its politically correct.

Privacy
You have the right to expect that your user name or password is being protected by the website of which you have registered. You also have the responsibility to keep your user name and password to yourself.

Courtesy
When online always be as nice as possible. You don’t want to start a flame war. A flame war is when two people constantly insult each other via the internet. This is a very time consuming and wasteful way to use the internet.

Digital rights and responsibilities influence people socially and ethically. It can affect them socially because people have the right to meet other people online. People must also be responsible socially so that they do not meet people that could make them unsafe. People must also be responsible ethically so that they do not get into trouble online.

Possible solutions

Some of the problems of the internet are people not Respecting there rights and responsibilities. An example of this is Cyber bullying. It is your right that if you are being cyber bullied you can block the person. It is your right to block a person if they are bullying you on social sites. The things that you need to do in order is stop, block, and tell. It is your right to eliminate all of these people trying too bully or mess with you in anyway. You do not have rights too copy things on the internet unless you are using Creative Commons. This is a site that makes all material on it legal to copy and paste. You may legally use pictures and other thing on it to do things. You have to state the creator of the thing you are copying if you do not use creative commons.

Guideline(s) or rule(s)

  • check with a friend to make sure nothing you post is offensive.
  • read through things.
  • if i sounds offensive it usually is.
  • if something just feels wrong it usually is don't do it.
